The University of Southampton
And After Your PhD...

A newly qualified PhD in Physics has many exciting and rewarding career options. There is no question that in any career or walk of life the background and outlook developed through a rigorous scientific training is of enormous value. A few students go immediately into non-scientific careers whilst others take up science-based appointments in the UK. For many, however, their interest in physics and research takes them on to postdoctoral research, frequently in the United States, Europe or, increasingly, Japan. From there it is often the case that they return to the UK, some to join a university but most to continue with research and development in an industrial or research establishment.
