The Athena SWAN (Scientific Women's Academic Network) Charter is a global framework which is used to promote inclusive working practices and transform gender equality within higher education and research.

The School of Engineering Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (ED&I) Committee co-ordinates our Athena SWAN applications. Our current Athena SWAN action plan can be found at the botton of the page.

The University of Southampton also holds an Athena SWAN Silver award.

Athena SWAN successes in the School of Engineering include:

• Out of Hours Carer’s Fund has resulted in more gender diversity at Open Days and preparation work for fellowship applications
• Outreach programme brings Year 9 students into contact with some of our leading female academics and facilities
• Recruitment literature for undergraduate and postgraduate courses promotes gender diversity throughout
