Our induction programme is designed to help you settle in as quickly as possible, with help or advice available whenever you need it. For most students, 'arrival' means getting to your halls of residence a week or so before the start of the teaching year.
There are some things that you may need to do before you arrive; the University has produced a checklist to help you make your preparations.
The checklist also highlights some actions to follow up when you arrive, during the induction week before the academic year begins (also known as 'Freshers’ Week'). This includes welcome events and introductions from your academic unit and the Students' Union, plus a choice of other, decidedly non-academic activities. If you are coming to Southampton from outside the UK (including EU countries), you should have received a welcome pack from our own International Support Team. We provide additional events for you during the first two weeks, and ongoing support and advice throughout the year is always available if you need it.
