Dr John Coxon

Dr John Coxon is a postdoctoral research assistant in the Space Environment Physics group, working with Dr Rob Fear. His research interests include currents in near-Earth space known as Birkeland currents. He also studies transpolar arcs (TPAs) and flux transfer events (FTEs), two signatures of the processes by which the Sun and Earth's magnetic fields interconnect.

John is the lead of the Planeterrella public engagement programme, and has experience teaching in both schools and universities. He is also on MIST Council, the governing body of an organisation representing Magnetosphere, Ionosphere and Solar-Terrestrial researchers in the UK.
