I am a Lecturer in Physics at the Department of Physics and Astronomy of the University of Southampton (United Kingdom), where I lead the Solid-State Quantum Optics group.

I graduated from the University of Padua (Italy), 110/110 cum laude, with a thesis entitled "Optical properties of quantum dots in a magnetic field", carried out at the Ecole Normale Superieure de Paris (France).

I obtained my PhD from the University Paris-Diderot (France), Mention Tres Honorable, with a thesis entitled "Electrically injected semiconductor devices operating in the light-matter strong coupling regime".

I am recipient of the Ing. Aldo Gini Prize of Excellence, the Honorary Secretary of the Semiconductor Group of the Institute of Physics, co-chair of the Non-linear Optics Technical Group of the Optical Society of America, a member of the American Physical Society, of the Optical Society of America and of the Institute of Physics and Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

Research

Research interests

My research activities are focused on the fundamental understanding of quantum optics phenomena with solid-state emitters in nano-fabricated quantum photonic devices. Besides fundamental research, I also works towards the enhancement of the light-matter interaction on a chip for energy harvesting, sensing and quantum information technology applications.

My research work in the nano-photonics area has covered topics including mid-infrared quantum cascade structures, intersubband polaritons, plasmonics, disordered photonics, nano-imaging, nano-fabrication, single-photon and quantum photonic devices.
