Find out moreLouise Coutts is a Research Fellow in the Astronomy Group working with cardiac data to develop new tools for diagnostics and tracking of Hypertension. From 2017 to 2020 Louise worked at the University of Surrey undertaking research using wrist wearables to investigate how stress, anxiety and depression affect heart rate variability and developing machine learning models to predict mental health status from cardiac data from wrist wearables. From 2012 to 2017 she worked at the University of Southampton working on biomechanics of bone, aviation safety and using EEG to assess levels of drowsiness. Prior to this Louise completed her PhD at the Institute of Cancer Research developing novel imaging diagnostic techniques to aid diagnosis of pigmented lesions and breast cancer related lymphedema, using ultrasound and optical techniques to image tissue stiffness, before undertaking her first postdoctoral position at the University of Essex investigating the effect of wearing coloured lenses on migraineurs, using near infra-red spectroscopy to measure activity in the visual cortex.
Louise's primary interests are varied within medical research, including biomechanics, mental health, neuroscience, medical imaging and cardiac related disease.
