About Us

Physics & Astronomy has a long standing reputation for research of international excellence in the fields of Astronomy, Quantum, Light & Matter and Theoretical Particle Physics. We are also dedicated to providing high quality physics teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate level.

In the last five years, with the support of the University, we have made major re-investments in all our research groups, teaching activities and in the renovation of our building.These improvements are part of our on going mission to maintain our status as one of the very top institutions for Physics in the world.

Our RAE research has now placed us in the top 5 for Physics in the UK and our percentage of undergraduates with high class A-level results has almost doubled. The Guardian ranked us as one of the top three Physics Departments in the UK in 2005.
