"I was also impressed by the diverse range of modules offered which has given me a well-balanced combination of theoretical, experimental and computational work. I have been able to tailor my learning to suit my strengths, allowing me to get the maximum potential out of my degree.

"The lab facilities at Southampton are state-of-the-art; I have been offered the opportunity to do a wide range of experiments which have allowed me to determine which area of physics interests me most. The computer suites, fantastic photonics labs and constant support from the teaching staff make the learning environment really positive. The connection to the outstanding Optoelectronics Research Centre at Southampton has meant exposure to cutting edge research that is being implemented all around the world.

Internship opportunities
"Southampton offers some superb opportunities to do internships, study abroad or take part in experimental research. My SEPnet summer internship has been really beneficial for both my career and module choices - the optional modules I took have led me towards a more practical career using computational methods to make mathematical models of real world problems. I learned some invaluable new skills, like public speaking, during my internship and but I also made numerous professional contacts that have made choosing my career path much easier.

Social scene
"There’s a huge range of clubs and societies on offer at Southampton, as well as fantastic sports facilities. It’s easy to get involved and a great way to meet people and find new activities to do. Southampton’s location on the south coast offers exceptional water-sports facilities, which has been a really big positive.

"I would really recommend studying Physics and Astronomy at Southampton – it’s a fantastic way to discover more about how the universe operates, whilst having access to world leading academic staff and teaching facilities. It has opened my eyes to new career paths and research opportunities."
